The

THEME OF THE YEAR

whitecrosscutout.png

EVERY LA SALETTE YEAR HAS A THEME...

The theme serves as one of the unifying sources of our meditations and thoughts throughout the year. The students will hear stories and learn of men who are linked to the particular theme chosen. The theme this year is a continuation of last year's theme which is war.

PES MEUS STETIT IN DIRECTO. These words, meaning "my foot hath stood in the right path" are from the Book of Psalms and will serve as the quote of the year.

We are souls that are in the midst of a great war. A war between the forces of good and evil. And even though the path may be full of darkness and unimaginable trials, we march along with resolve and with purpose.

Also, being the first year as headmaster, Fr. Sick told the students that he saw the chosen quote as a fitting description of how the school will continue - along the same path that it set out on 14 years ago. The path of striving for excellence in all things and at all times. No matter the trial -  we shall stay the course.

YEAR CARD

This year's card, which every student receives, depicts a very famous scene from the Book of Judges:

Jerobaal, then, (or Gedeon) rose at break of day and led his army to the spring called the Spring of Harad. The camp of Madian lay there in the valley, with a high hill to the south of it.

This is a great army thou hast with thee, the Lord told Gedeon. I must not grant victory over Madian to an army like this, or the Israelites would boast that they had no need of me; that their own strength had brought them deliverance.

Make it known publicly, for all to hear, that any man who shrinks back or is afraid is free to go home. So twenty-two thousand of his men, from the hill-country of Galaad, went back home, and left him with only ten thousand.

But the Lord said to Gedeon, Thy army is still too great. Take them down the water-side, and I will test them there. I will tell thee which of them are to march in thy company, and which are to return home instead.

And when they reached the water, the Lord’s command to Gedeon was, Separate those who lap the water like dogs, and those who go down on their knees to drink.

There were only three hundred that took up water in their hands and lapped it, all the rest knelt as they drank;

but the Lord said to Gedeon, These three hundred men who lapped the water shall win you deliverance; I will put the Madianites in their power. Send all the rest of thy companions home.

Here at La Salette, God has chosen these students to be here. He has chosen them for a reason. They are to be His soldiers, they are to fight His great war. And it is here at this Academy - where they will find their greatest preparation. This is La Salette. And these students are the 300. Whatever they may do this year, at the heart of it must be the one and only focus: to fight against self in order to fight for God.

This is the meaning behind this year's card.

OPENING RECOLLECTION

IMG_9649.JPG

Every year begins with a recollection where the students spend a day and a half both in silence and in prayerful reflection. This year Fr. Sick spoke about the need for us to be men of desire. He explained how important it is for us to continuously contemplate on the great truths of God because our will only desires something as long as our intellect sees the importance of it.

" BECOME MEN OF GREAT DESIRE."

Father also stressed the importance of being men of prayer and wonder. We must be men who are eager to learn constantly about our God and to marvel at His greatness as well as men who rid themselves of petty distractions in order to find what our souls truly thirst for - God alone.

It is only by being men of prayer that we can be effective soldiers for Christ. And the very reason we are here is because we have been called to be just that - soldiers. This is our training ground. The principles learned and discipline achieved here at this Academy will be the foundation upon which we build our future lives that are meant to be consecrated to the glory of God at all times.

"GOD WANTS QUALITY SOLDIERS.

HE IS PREPARING HIS ARMY.

HE IS PREPARING YOU."
